What did I do after selling Jelly Belly? I started helping people turn their dreams into reality

Not long after selling Jelly Belly Rebecca and I were able to move the kids into a neighborhood in the foothills outside Los Angeles

Even after being forced to sell the company I started I never stopped loving this industry.

Over the last two decades I’ve personally come up with or helped to launch

I helped my daughter (who you’ll meet later on) turn her creation into a million dollar business and open a factory near Los Angeles.

Years later I made the move to Florida and opened a manufacturing facility 90 minutes outside Orlando.

Over the years I have been asked to speak at over 150 schools and non profit organizations.

But over the years a small group of entrepreneurs have had full, one on one access to me.

The people I’ve mentored have come from all walks of life.

Julie went from being a poker dealer in Las Vegas to selling and shipping her homemade fudge to over 14,000 people across the country.

Mitzi quit her job as a middle school counselor in Hawaii.

She never took a baking class.

……yet she’s been featured on the Food Network three different times, in Forbes Magazine four separate times, on Good Morning America, in O Magazine, and in dozens of other publications.

“Many don’t know that David Klein has mentored me from the start of my business. As busy as he is he is so generous and kind, helping others and giving back.”

Today Saks Fifth Avenue is regularly placing orders and carrying her cookies in their stores.

Her cookies have now been endorsed by and and are loved by celebrities like

  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
  • Ludacris
  • Bruno Mars
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Cardi B
  • Diana Ross
  • Bill Maher
  • David Spade
  • Journey
  • Adam Sandler
  • Bob Saget

Now - I know what you’re thinking…

…….what should I sell?

You probably want to know what is almost guaranteed to sell before you invest any time or money, right?

Of the over 40 different candy products I’ve created during the last 60 years most of them are still in existence today…

There is truly nothing like taking a product from zero in sales to it being the most talked about product in the industry.

I still spend my days immersed in the candy and food business.

I still follow all the industry news and follow all the trends in the industry even more closely.

After six decades in this industry I have a deep understanding of what sells.

……and what doesn’t sell.

The amazing thing is after so many years I can tell almost immediately if it’s a winning product or if you are wasting your time.

So, after I hear your story and after we go over the recipes you enjoy baking the most, I’ll help you decide what to sell.

(I want to be 100% sure you’re selling the one that has the highest likelihood of success).

And don’t worry – It doesn’t need to be an original idea or recipe..

Many of the people I’ve talked to over the years trying to start a candy or food related business feel TREMENDOUS pressure to only make and sell something is 100% “original”.

I mentioned before the Jelly Bean was invented in 1861.

……115 years before I came up with the idea for Jelly Belly®.

Now, before you go I have one more story

(It’s how I helped my own daughter turn her creation into a million dollar business)

When my daughter Roxy was a senior in high school she had an idea.

A few months earlier she had been to Knotts Berry Farm where she purchased sand art in a bottle.

She was intrigued by the do it yourself aspect of the product.

Her creation sat in her room for months gathering dust.

One day while she was looking at it for the hundredth time a light bulb went off in her head.

What if we made a product that people of all ages could make out of edible sand and could eventually eat their artistic creation?

Sand art that you can eat.

Sandy Candy.

An idea all her own at 17 years old.

Roxy traveled the country promoting her product and it was even featured on The Food Network (as well as so many other shows).

Soon after we moved into a factory outside of Los Angeles and reached the million dollar mark in sales.

Today Sandy Candy is still enjoyed by kids across the country.

Schools use it for carnivals and it is the busiest booth at street fairs….

Millions of children have enjoyed it.

In 2011 CNN featured Roxy in their “My First Million” column.

The wheels are constantly turning for the Kleins as they plot out new products. The average time from conception to market is one week. “We’re not afraid to try new things,” said Roxy Klein. This summer she launched candy powder in three cupcake flavors: “The ‘vanilla cupcakes’ are delicious. It tastes like a real cupcake,” she said.”
